Brownlow Inn Restaurant Flooring

Restaurant Flooring

Flowstone Industrial Flooring Ltd were appointed to carry out the kitchen flooring works at one of Cheshire’s premium dining country pubs. The Brownlow Inn in Congleton was awarded Restaurant of the Year 2008-2009 by Congleton Borough Council and as Best Eatery in 2010 by the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

The floor required a new base and Flowcrete’s Isopol SBR, latex screed, was selected for its excellent resistance to water, water vapour, low shrinkage and rapid strength. It offers good physical strengths, compressive, flexural and tensile and abrasion resistance. Isopol SBR has been installed in a variety of environments, including Manila International Airport, Philippines. Once Flowstone had completed the installation of Isopol SBR, the floor was left to cure for 7 days.

The following week the team carried out mechanical floor preparation by way of dust captive diamond grinding. This is always recommended before applying any resin system. One coat of Flowcrete’s Hydraseal Damp Proof Membrane in red was applied in order to allow the immediate installation of the resin screed floor finish. Hydraseal is a very popular damp proof membrane and has been used in projects for the Bank of England, Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems. The floor coving was primed with Peran TCW, Flowcrete’s primer for vertical substrates.

Flowcrete’s Flowfresh HF was selected for the floor finish and cove for its hard wearing and hygienic properties. Flowfresh HF is a heavy duty chemical resistant antimicrobial polyurethane resin floor screed. It is ideal for use in wet processing zones such as food manufacturing, food preparation areas, and chemical processing plants. It contains PolygieneR, which is an antimicrobial additive which will not only prevent bacteria from spreading, but will kill the bacteria when it comes into contact with the floor. It is steam cleanable and is heat resistant to 120 degrees centigrade. Flowfresh HF comes with a manufacturer and workmanship backed warranty of ten years, and has a life expectancy of between fifteen to twenty years. The product has been used at Nestle, McVities, Grants Whiskey, Astra Zeneca and GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals.

Flowcrete’s Peran WW was specified for the wall coatings. The client opted for white and three coats were applied to the walls. Peran WW is suitable for use in food process areas, kitchens, light industrial areas, storerooms and garages. This coating is hygienic, vapour permeable and can be applied to damp substrates. All vertical coatings come with a manufacturers and workmanship backed warranty of two years with a life expectancy of three to five years. Peran WW has been installed in a variety of environments for clients such as Asda, Convatec and Beaconsfield Footwear.

The project was completed on time and to budget and the client was very happy with the final restaurant epoxy resin floor, coving and wall finishes.
