Data Centre Flooring

Data Reality is Data Centre based in Woking and houses 200,000 sq ft of space for debox and test rooms as well as distaster recovery suites.

Flowstone where appointed the task of freshening up their floors during the Christmas shutdown period. The client required a high build gloss coating to refresh the look of the company corridors. Flowstone carried out diamond grinding works, using the Blastrac BG-250E to the entire 2,684sqm of corridors. The team then applied two coats of Altrotect Azurite Blue, a FeRFA Type 3, high build industrial floor coating with excellent abrasion and chemical resistance. This coating is well suited to warehouses, industrial units and aviation hangers.

Data Reality also had a ramp area of 30sqm of which they were unsure what flooring product would be best suited. Flowstone carried out their own surface testing to the ramp to ensure the concrete is 2.5 newtons per metre squared. The surface testing came back successful so the team then started to remove 20mm of the existing surface from the ramp using diamond grinding. Once the ramp was full prepped, the team team applied Altro primer and scattered the aggregate.

The Flowstone team then installed Altrocrete PU Excel HF at 9mm to the entire 30sqm ramp area. This system is a FeRFA Type 8 polyurethane screed which offers excellent resistance to impact or abrasion and resistance to a wide range of chemicals including organic acids found in foodstuffs. Altrocrete provides a durable and very safe monolithic floor finish ideal for applications in the industrial food and beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical industry. This system has good cleanability and can withstand steam cleaning. It also meets the European Directive on the Hygiene of Food Stuffs (93/43/EEC) and is unlikely to taint food stored in close proximity to material.
The project took the team 24 days to complete and the ramp area was completed by the team over the weekend to coincide with the company’s office hours. The customer was pleased with the final finishes, in particular the ramp area which was left to Flowstone to specify a suitable system and carry out the relevant testing.
