The Farmers Market needed a new, durable epoxy flooring system for their busy auction house. Originally the board of directors were considering using a commercial vinyl, mainly due to cost and concerns about shut down times.
Upon personal recommendation, the auction house contacted Flowstone for some general advice on their flooring options and ultimately appointed Flowstone Commercial Flooring to specify and install a floor that met all their needs within their budget. The key requirements of the new floor was; hard wearing, anti slip, decorative, easy to clean with minimal shut down time for installation.
Flowstone specified a decorative MMA flooring solution. A methyl methacrylate (MMA) resin flooring system, offered the client excellent, abrasion, wear, stain and slip resistance, a choice of decorative finishes and a joint-free easily cleaned finish. It is ideal where a new floor needs to be installed quickly. The specification also had the added benefit of being able to withstand thermal shocks and impact.
The preparation involved vacuum shot blasting and diamond grinding to remove the remnants of the old vinyl covering and some isolated repairs. The MMA was applied with a trowel at a thickness of 2mm and then fully blinded with decorative quartz aggregate to give the floor its anti slip and decorative properties. A clear MMA seal coat was then applied. The works began late afternoon on a Friday and the floor was ready for foot traffic on Sunday.
